Labeled Use and Safety
XSONX is a prescription device. It is labeled for cleansing and excisional debridement of chronic open wounds or contaminated acute wounds. Examples include burns, pressure ulcers, and diabetic, venous, traumatic, and surgical site wounds. XSONX is for external wounds.
When to Consider XSONX
XSONX may have a place in wound bed preparation on its own or alongside UltraMIST. The examples below are not a complete list.
Alternative to traditional debridement
XSONX may be appropriate as an alternative to debridement with a curette or blade, including for patients who struggle to tolerate it.
Plans where MIST may not qualify
The patient's plan may not cover UltraMIST therapy, or prior authorization may be denied. The provider may then consider whether debridement is clinically appropriate.
Patients where MIST may not qualify
The patient may not meet the plan's criteria for MIST, or UltraMIST may not be appropriate for that patient under its instructions for use.
Procedure situations
The provider may determine the wound needs slough, biofilm, or nonviable tissue removed, or the care planned for that visit may not support MIST.
Provider choice
Some providers may prefer contact debridement for a given wound. Device selection is the provider's clinical decision.
Uses described by the manufacturer include wound bed preparation before grafting, routine wound hygiene at follow-up visits, and refreshing wound edges.
